Spafford Summer Six Pack

Holy smokes you can feel the fire from the BB King's show on the AMF.

Listening back to the post-Phish show for the first time since Saturday night, it sounds just as good as I remember it. There's not many bands that I would stay out until 4 seeing, especially after a Phish show, but Spafford is one of them. All My Friends was a perfect opener as they needed to come out with a lot of energy, and they maintained that level throughout the night. The band came up with a great, all-originals set list for the night and I was glad to finally hear Red's Jam and Salamander song. Highlights for me were Mind's Unchained and Weasel through Beautiful Day, so basically the last 45 minutes of the set. Do yourself a favor and listen to this show, and get ready for what is sure to be an incredible fall tour.

Just finished listening to BB King's. It was fantastic. You can feel how pumped the band is and it sounds like they know they're on their best behavior. The 'Reprise Fakeout' is clearly a mistake. In fact, I removed it from the SpaffBase setlist because... well... just listen to it. Go listen to that... then the 4/13/2017 Williamsburg Reprise Fakeout. You'll hear what a real fakeout is.
Now on to 5/25/13
- On Fire -> ETS is huge. Spacey, patient, great jam. Solid 40 minutes of straight jam. The transition into ETS is seamless.

@damian I was wondering why it was called a fake-out when it really just sounded link they didn't lock in together for the next song haha

@Chris-Ogor-Lopez Yeah... well... that's the thing about improvisational jams right? Sometimes the parts that are planned get flubbed. But we, as fans, accept that that's part of the game. Phish can't play 240 songs in 13 shows without repeat and be expected to hit every single composed note of every single song. We trade perfection for authenticity and at heart that's what the jam band experience is. If I wanted to see perfectly rehearsed and replayed music I'd go to the symphony. That's an entirely different experience.
I'll never forget seeing Crosby, Stills, and Nash many years ago. My friend Jesse and I went to see them at the Garden State Arts Center and he had been to see them a few nights earlier. He turned to me a few songs in and said, "D, this is the SAME show... jokes and all. WTF?" We had both grown up on Phish and the Dead and we didn't get that what CSN was doing was the standard for concert performances, not an anomaly. A few years ago I took my Ma to see the Eagles. I was able to look up the prior day's setlist to know exactly what was going to be played, when, and how long. Those shows have their place, but they certainly aren't what we are looking for.

@damian Completely agree with this and it basically sums up my thoughts on the Disco Biscuits that most people don't seem to understand. The biscuits take such big risks in there jams and it sometimes doesn't always connect, but at least they are willing to take those risks and go big or go home
-
@Chris-Ogor-Lopez I've never spent any real time listening to the Disco Biscuits. I probably should but my radio dial is already so full! WHAT A TIME WE LIVE IN!
<old man rant>
You know... you kids these days... When I was your age we didn't have any of that fancy satellite radio for dedicated GD and Jam On stations. We didn't have the fancy internets where you could stream shows from your favorite bands. All we had was word of mouth and cassette tapes passed from friend to friend.

Okay, on to show #3 and also my first Spafford Show!
2014-12-31 - Cactus Jack's -

Also for what it's worth the post set 2, pre encore "Banter" track includes Brian explaining the origin of the band name Spafford as well as other uses of "Spafford."

@damian The intro to that weasel is really cool, it also has one of the earliest Red's Jam teases start right before the 7:00 mark. This is my favorite show out of the six-pack and definitely in consideration for my top 5 overall
