Best Jams For Amusement Only Tour '18

don't think i've seen a thread dedicated to just this tour but man they are on fire. a lot of hype around the detroit rock city america and cleveland reds jam, but i implore you to check out the cleveland hollywood. patient, melodic playing. a beuatiful jam.
just the third (by my count, phx halloween '15 and somewhere in february last year though it wasn't nearly as jammed as the phx and cleveland versions) taboot.
quick list off the top:
1/11 minny - thieves
1/12 milwookie - breakdown, mr mr, weasel pal weasel, all in
1/13 detroit - america
1/14 cleveland - parody sammy, hollywood, reds jam
1/17 pittsburgh - havent listened yet but that whole second set looks choice
1/18 buffalo - stream went in and out for me but the bean dip was really good to my earswhats everyone else thinking
-
just listened to pitt II. really good and definitely worth a listen but nothing that stands up as its own or as a whole to the aforementioned jams above.

Have to politely disagree with you here. The Weasel is pretty outstanding, especially the first 10 minutes.
Also think last night's second set was maybe the best so far this year. Peoprise, Plans, VBD>Galisteo was relentless. And the Mad World to end was great.
Sure hope Pittsburgh and Minneapolis second sets are the only ones that short the rest of year. Pitt is under 50 minutes and MN is just over 50.

That whole 2nd set in the 'Burgh....we raged so hard!
-
everyone always forgets about PLANS!
buffalo rendition was ferocious followed by a wonderfully beautiful VBD@Night-Train said in Best Jams FAO Tour '18:

These shows are just so great as wholes that it's hard for me to pick out one best jam from each one... They are sounding better than ever right now!
-
@GeorgeBailey very happy to take back my initial comment. relistened to the weasel twice and it is stellar. must not have been listening too closely the first time around but glad you said something cuz it's some boss shit
-
@Cody there's definitely some truth to that. really helps to listen to the whole show if you have time, like the crazy from the other night- there's about 10 seconds where brian plays a gorgeous lick that i don't think i've heard before but then goes back into the main theme. those are the little things that you pick up when you can play a whole show start to finish that really make that time pay off
-
speaking of set II's wowee kazowee lancaster got a scorcher tonight
-
@Night-Train first set was no slouch either!
-
gotta add detroit plans to the list this thing is nasty

I don’t know what rendition it started but something clicked with Plans fall 2017 and every version has been a cataclysmic stroll into a peaking celebration. The NYE run was atypical bc they built it into ambiance first, let everyone think they were safe, and eventually came back to the explosive crescendo
-
Definitely Pittsburgh Aint That Wrong and Buffalo Plans
-
@RadiantDarkness might have to revisit all the versions from fall '17 then. that's the kind of homework i like.
-
@spaffaholic that whole set is so nice. finished people from set one then plans > vbd > gw with a crazy bustout then untzy mad world to finish it off yeah i'll take that every time
-
Down Under from 1/19 is pretty amazing.
-
@Night-Train no doubt whole show is flame but they have come out of the gates hard for 2018 and every board has so many oh damn jams. Hard to choose but those stuck out in my mind as having not been mentioned yet.

I will fully endorse the Baton Rogue Plans. It's a show no one really talks about (b/c no 'nerds were there other than Bread Side)
The ovation the band gets after Down Under at that show is simply outstanding also. Band's faces became melty just likes ours. College kids know how to party on a Thursday.
-
I nominate the Taco-weasel Double Sammy Wammy from Lancaster. Whole set is fire!
Side note, how rare is it to have someone sit in for a Spaff original? That Slip and Squander was also phenomnal, but sorry for getting off topic

honorable mention to 1/19 Lonely. They didn't just go straight into rage mode like they have been with it recently. Brian starts bending strings like a madman and hands us a beautifully composed jam filled with bliss. Will it be the jam of the year? Nah, but it's showing that the band isn't just going through the motions up there, they are indeed flying with the wind and whatever catches, they go with it!
Disclaimer: I dance with my arms so when Brian catches these moments of undulation, it freaks my body the fuck out and they always leave a deeper impression in my mind.
