I really like the lines from All In that you guys posted! Lonely also has some of my favorite lyrics. So many other songs with great lyrics like Slip and Squander, Windmill, Beautiful Day. One of my favorites will always be Leave The Light On, it was one of the first Spafford songs that I heard and my first reaction to it was that it made me feel like I was in a fantasy world! How often does that happen? I was hooked even that far back! I think what is special about these songs is not just the lyrics but how they are sung.

And he said, βHEY! Iβm dancing the whole way home!β
...Because I LOVE the feeling of walking out of a show still in the groove!

@Philthy one of the things that I think Spafford "gets" is the idea of engaging the fans in these kinds of sing alongs. Salamader and Galisteo both have these great crowd response parts that new fans can pick up on during first listen.
I remember being at Some Kind Of Jam and watching the fans 'get it' during the encore. You could actually see it click that there was a part for them and even though it was 2am they walked out of there dancing and smiling.

@damian love it! And yes...they tune in very well to their audience....and offer us a little piece of the pie with "participation lyrics"!

"Late night morning haze take my hand
through the trees up the stairs to the sand.
Stars start to slip and squander the calm.
Blue tarp, wild eyed puddle in my palm."
-- Slip and SquanderChuck's lyrics here are just so beautiful to me. Red's delivery and the peak that Brian (and the band) build to is absolutely sublime. The tension and release... I mean... this is what songwriting is all about.

Listening to @zman's recording of Brooklyn Bowl "All In"
"Sure footing long ago gave way to flash erosion, I was there to watch it burn."
I love the way the lyrics are packed with meaning, imagery, and they fit into the rhythm of the song. Great stuff.
