Spafford Cover: Send Me On My Way - Best Performances

You weren't alive in the 90's if you don't know Rusted Root's Send Me On My Way. The first time I heard this song was in NJ's many named indoor arena at the Meadowlands when Rusted Root opened for Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. One more piece of useless trivia, my father thought this song was called "Simmy and the Whale," perhaps in reference to Coming to America, but again, I digress. More to the point, Spafford throws down a pretty sick version of Rusted Root's biggest hit. This is all the more interesting because RR is a 40 piece band and Spafford is only four.
When I was first falling in love with Spafford I was struck with how the band can take a jam down to a real gentle and patient hold and then build to a melodic crescendo to finish out a song. SMOMW is a great example of this. The original has a beautiful flute solo at the end that calls back the infectious melody that helped Rusted Root become a household name. The boys do solid justice to it with Brian leading the charge.
I'll call out a version played at the Bird Cage in Prescott AZ from 2013-07-27. This show is special as it includes guest performances from members of The Cheektones and features a tribute to the recently departed legend JJ Cale. The Send Me On My Way is just the core of the band though, and Jordan does a great job with the vocal lead and Brian's solo at the end is absolutely noteworthy.
As a quick aside, The Cheektones wrote Sweet which made its debut in the Spring 2017 tour and can be found on a couple of official releases.

Rusted Root's new drummer is a childhood friend of mine (Steve "Zil" Fessler). I'll have to catch them again soon.
