@RadiantDarkness a definite on that Slip and Squander with Rick from Goose, I really enjoy that one.
-
I would like to recommend Soil from 3/14/18.
my case ; ) :
around the 2 min mark, the keys get super nasty funky
3:30 guitar tone starts getting fatter
jam breaks for a second around 4:10
then we really start heading to the promise land
4:34 the guitar riff i love kicks in. very simple repeating, dark tone
4:40 keys go full blown 80s dead funk like feel like a stranger
then they really start to create within that simple structure they just laid down
solid foundation to funk on top off, keys really starts adding flare
this lasts till 6:20 mark at which point they switch to cruise control and rage out the rest of the song in typical spafford fashion -
@fluffhead How could anyone disagree with this well thought out explanation? Added!
-
@GeorgeBailey highly recommend you give this version a spin

Just relistened to Asheville, N2... holy smokes... this All In is out of its friggin' mind. Can I get an amen?
Watching it on youtube is fun -
I'd advise you to listen to the 2012-03-16 Down Under from Coyote Joes, but your mom will get pissed at me when you face slops on the floor

This is the kind of thread I can get down with. Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend.
I'd like to throw It's A Bunch 1/26/18 into the convo as honorable mention (I don't think it can beat out Crystal Bay)
-
@Lauer-Nation i think the most straightforward playing of Its A Bunch is at The Peach Festival on 8/12/17. Not necessary the best jam or nastiest, but for me its the definitive version.

Now that they laid sax down on the studio version of Ain’t That Wrong, 11/09/17 has a really nice saxophone performance as well. Similar grooves to the new studio version.

This was a great day overall! We got to hear them soundcheck for soundcheck (they played Living for the City). Then, we got to see soundcheck (jam and living for the city). Finally, at the show, those of us at soundcheck got to see them perform it at the show too! 3 Living in the Cities in one day after not seeing them perform it live prior.
Nick Gerlach on sax during ATW was fucking boss. I love this rendition.

Check out the video for this one. If I'm not mistaken Red actually misses the entry on the vocals. Brian and Red have a chuckle over it and Brian covers with a super Wa'd out lick. It's one of those moments where a "mistake" ends up producing something amazing. You've got to lean into the skid...

Two recommendations today.
- Soil 2018/04/20, gets very dark dirty funk right off the bat
- LTLO 2018/03/16, almost sounds like Cam's playing twice as many notes as usual, Brian shredding the whole time, the pre vocal breakdown jam and the post are both non stop peaking
