2nd half of Aggie 11/10 It's A Bunch should have its own name
-
As soon as it happened, I thought this would show up on the setlist differently. At the 4:11 mark, there is a clear break and the start of something almost completely new, correct? I leaned over to Grout and said "Aggie Jam." Doesn't have to be called that, but it WAS a different jam, amiright??? Thoughts?
-
@mdjabber I'll have to give it a listen but our general rule is that a big jam gets marked as 'notable jam' but not a separate song. This is done for stat keeping purposes.
-
I'm listening to it now and you're right. They finish the composed It's A Bunch and then drop into a funk groove with what sounds like a defined Melody and a call and response between Brian and Red.
-
@damian Yup, totally! Different tempo, different groove...
-
@mdjabber It's interesting because I'd normally just say "It's Type II, it's supposed to sound like it's own thing." This one sounds a bit like something they're working on. But IDK, I'm an engineer, not a musician.
-
@damian I was thinking the same thing during the show. I noticed right away that there was a clear end to IAN and then Cam kicked it off with a specific beat. And look...if there weren't several other so-named "venue-specific" jams, I wouldn't mention it. But we know how this band develops many of these standardized jams, i.e. Cabin Jam...
-
@mdjabber Or...meant to say..."and songs FROM" those jams
-
I gotta agree with @mdjabber on this one. I feel like there's a distinct end to IAB and then they launch into a jam that had to be at least somewhat pre-meditated. I have no idea how it should be listed on the setlist though.
-
I still hold pretty firm to "no jam songs." I hear what you hear but...
We could ask the community what they think... I'm open to the will of the people.
-
@damian I hear ya, once we start with that it'll be hard to figure out where to draw the line. Maybe just a notable jam note and call it a day.

I am. Definitely less work than this place.

The answer is no because we already went through the setlists and removed all the one off jams. The main reason being that they clog the song page up and they aren't really songs, more-so juicy improv that may or may not be attached to a song. Peach Jam from Peach Festival is a great example of not including something that they have labeled on nugs.
It does bring up a valid point though. I would be down for labeling these jams as just the song "Jam" without a specific name and then we can add a song note to Jam for that show when we felt it necessary. If we want to stay congruent with the band and their labeling, I think this might be the better way moving forward.

@RadiantDarkness I actually didn't realize you guys did that...in THAT case, no need to label as such. I was going off of what I previously saw on setlists, but if you ditched that, so be it. Thanks!
