Show of the Month Club: August's Show: 8/9/2014

I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. It kind of runs along side the "6 packs" that we were doing in the past ( https://forum.spaffnerds.com/topic/100/spafford-summer-six-pack, and https://forum.spaffnerds.com/topic/166/listen-now-oktoberfest-six-pack)
I'm down to listen, and I'll get this promoted on FB as well and we'll see if we can get some nerds to join in.
Great idea @GeorgeBailey
-
Also, if we get some traction maybe we can carve out a SOTM section of the site and have a post for each show to collect discussion in one place.
-
I love this idea!
-
This Ain’t That Wrong is definitely worth a few repeat listens. Took me a minute to get used to the tempo, but the jam is on point.
-
The funkadelic is dirty as hell.
-
Does Brian say "hey mother fucking police man" after the break?

Couldn't agree more. It shreds.

I know he changes it to "hey Albuquerque policeman", unless you are referring to a different part.
This show just rips from beginning to end. One song under 10 minutes. In fact, the LTLO, which is why I picked this show, might be down the list a bit. It meanders at times although still has some great moments, but ATW, People, Down Under, and ETS are beasts.
This one needs an SBD release.

I'll have to give it another listen. Either way we can update the notes to reflect it.

Wow, what an outstanding selection! You are doing a great service for anyone that has never heard this show before. So many top versions of songs and a fun, unique setlist. Out of my 80+ shows, this one is in my top 5.
Here are some (amateur) photos from that night: https://flic.kr/s/aHsk17npsY

The Leave The Light On is an absolute beast. The jam is enormous.
-
@GeorgeBailey Thanks! Also, I nominate 9/6/15 and 10/30/15, if those aren't too obvious.

This is an awesome idea. I was just thinking to myself the other day I really need to break into the older catalog more. I have a tendency to shy away from AUD recordings these days, not because I'm snobby about only SBD's but because my hearing really isn't as good as it used to be so some AUD's are just too hard to hear for me. This is a really good recording and the music is really hot. I'll be sure to check back for more . Thanks!

You know there's the Free Soundboards link that collects all old Soundboards. Most are the ones that Jordan mixed and they're really high quality recordings.
There's also the six pack threads which have a nice intro set of old shows.

My pleasure.
With that said... Let's keep show of the month going. I love the idea and I think a single choice is great for people. Easier to just dive in and go.

I completely agree!

August has a bunch of one set openers ,not really the best comparable month when you say. Maybe it should be best set of the month? Just a thought. Jr

Not sure I completely understand what you're suggesting. But the point of this was just to pick a show, not necessarily the best show, for each month and everyone listen to it and comment. We've already picked a show for August, and we have another one lined up for September, so there's not really a reason to compare anything or find another show/set. Hope you give it a listen!
