Games and Prizes: Winter Games 2020

Nerds! We're always looking for new and engaging ways for you to get more out of your Spafford experience. This Winter 2020 Tour we're introducing a competition which we hope to carry out into future tours. We're calling this Winter Games 2020 and it's being run by our very own @BlaiseStafford.

How It Works
The rules are pretty simple. For each show you pick 3 songs:

• Set 1 Opener
• Set 2 Opener
• Encore

That's it. Pick 3 songs, and enjoy the ride.

If you want to play, you need to email SPAFFORDTOURGAMES@GMAIL.COM at any point during the tour. Just let @BlaiseStafford know that you want in, and you're in.

Then, 1 hour before each show you need to email your selections for that show to SPAFFORDTOURGAMES@GMAIL.COM to get your picks in.

Scoring
If you exactly match the Set 1 Opener you get 3 points.
If you exactly match the Set 2 Opener you get 3 points.
If you exactly match the First Encore you get 5 points.
If any song you chose is played during the show but not in the position you chose, you get 1 point.

So let's say you pick:

• Set 1 Opener: All In
• Set 2 Opener: Windmill
• Encore: The Reprise

And the show was The 2019 New Year's Show. You'd get 0 points for All In, 1 point for Windmill because it was played but not as the set 2 opener, and 5 points for The Reprise for a total of 6 points.

The Leaderboard
The Leaderboard will be kept in this Topic by @BlaiseStafford. He will update the Leaderboard after each show and post an image of the updated board below. This is the official location of the scores and will be used for reference as needed.

Prizes updated
Winners get to choose from these prizes. First place winner chooses first, second place second, third is just grateful s/he won.

Prize One: 2 Tickets, courtesy of Spafford, to any non-festival show of the 2020 tour, winner's choice.

Prize Two: Artist Edition (One of only Ten printed) of Ryan Kerrigan's print from Spafford's show in Portland 2019

Prize Three: John Rose's incredible Giraffimal thanks to a generous donation from the Uber Nerd @mccuem. This is 1 of only 30 that were printed and this is a rare and highly coveted work of art.
Seriously, Martin is the living embodiment of "Killing It." Make sure you address this when you see him. Hugs, high fives, and even buying the guy a beer are suggested methods of expressing appreciation.

Fine Print
There's not much here except that the final call on all things goes to @BlaiseStafford. If he says points go one way, they go that way. If he disqualifies you, you're disqualified. If he decides you should stand on your head, stand on your head. Please do not bribe him, but if you decide to bribe him, bribe me too.

Seriously though, let's just make this nice and easy as all the stuff we do. Keep it fun and friendly and we all win.

Final Thoughts
The contest begins on 2020-01-15. You can start playing after that date but it might be tough to catch up. So send an email to SPAFFORDTOURGAMES@GMAIL.COM and tell him that you're ALL IN!!!

Good morning Nerds!

A lot of things happened on the leaderboards last night. A lot and I mean a lot of points scored. I feel like nearly half of you picked Beautiful Day and all got 5 points. Not one person choose that song in any other position than the encore.

We also had someone get all 3 of their picks correct (ROSS), but fortunately for the rest of us they were not in the correct order so he only got 7 points instead of a perfect score (11). With that being said I am trying to come up with an additional prize for the first person to obtain a perfect score (If it ever happens).

I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH PLEASE look at the spreadsheet and make sure your entries are correct. I am only human and make plenty of mistakes so please cal me out on them if you notice anything that doesn't look quite right.

Another show is in the books. @mccuem was nice enough to donate a pin for the Nerd with the most points scored. That Nerd Just happened to be me with a 3 banger for the opener (Eternity) I am going to turn down this generous prize, which means someone in 2nd from last night will win it. last night was a 4 way tie at 2 points by @mdjabber, @el_jefe, Michael Rothschild, RYAN KNAPP. Week 2 of tour is under way and night one is in the books.

Points, points, and more points! There were a bunch of points scored last night by everyone. Multiple people getting 3 bangers with "ALL IN" and "AIN'T THAT WRONG". A handful of people went 3 for 3 on their picks. Mr. Marc Jablon was so close to a perfect score. Once again he had another 3 for 3 night (FOR THE THIRD TIME). He had a total of 7 points and would've gotten the perfect 11 points if he didn't flip flop his 1st and 2nd set. Nice Job Marc you were so close.

Humble suggestion for next tour: With a 1 point and a 3 point option, what about a 2 point option for correct song/set.

1 point for song played
2 points for correct song/set
3 points for set opener.

That adds more point-scoring opportunities and some separation from nights like last night where a large number of people were aware that Ain't That Wrong had been cut the night before and probably had it somewhere in their picks. Plus, it's easier to get the show right than the set, so it should be more valuable.

Just a thought!
