    • RE: Any other Nerds in San Diego? If not where ya from?

I lived in San Diego for a few years when I was in the Navy. OB is a fun town. I miss seeing Brothers Gow at Winstons big time! Sad to hear they have a few band members leaving the group right now. My first Spafford show was at Wintsons in 2014 when they opened for Midnight North. I left that show thinking Spafford didn't live up to the hype, but that Midnight North killed it. I think it was just different seeing them opening for someone else and only having 45-60minutes to play for someone else's crowd.

I've seen them two more times since in Connecticut where I live now and it's been an entirely different experience! I love that they aren't big around here and play little 150 person rooms.

    • RE: 20+ Minute Jams

I'd rather see a jam chart with the "Highly recommended" versions of songs regardless of length. Some people get too excited about length of jams, especially the 20minute mark for some reason. It is no indication of quality in my opinion. I'll always take 14 minutes of unique and focused jamming over 24 minutes of noodling around.

I understand that a longer track time gets people excited about what the jam might contain, but why has the jam band community decided 20 minutes is significant? Not trying to pick on you OP, it just seems so arbitrary to me...

    • RE: Feature Release: Latest Show On Homepage, User Stats, Song Stats, and A nugs.net Giveaway!

No real interesting stats in my first three shows. No songs played all 3 times, and only 4 played twice. According to this I was the only nerd at my first show, but that is not too surprising I guess considering they were opening for another band (Midnight North) in a pretty small room (Winstons OB).
Sure would love that nugs subscription! I'm in. Great job adding the stats. No point in being a nerd if you can't nerd out on stats!

    • RE: PSA: Your Hearing

Started wearing a set of good ones towards the end of the Bakers Dozen when a buddy told me they are great for blocking out the chompers. I love everything about them! I heard the band much clearer than ever before, and couldn't hear the people behind me screaming their conversations! By the end of the dozen I swore I would never do a show without them... and then completly forgot them when I went to Spafford last month. I just need to get in the habit of bringing them.

Saving you ears is important and all, but for me the number one reason I wear them is the clarity of the music.

    • RE: Cabin Jam FTW. 😍

Cabin jam part 2 seems to start with Red's Jam for sure... It looks like Red's made its debut just a few months before the cabin jam happened. I know you need to jump off from somewhere to start an all jam set, but it does not seem right to me to not have Red's on the setlist. I am sure there are probably others that my noob ears didn't catch or place throughout the jam like someone already mentioned above. This is still a gorgeous piece of music even if it isn't a 100% improvised just straight Jam>Jam. Why not get the setlist right? Even if they are maybe just teases it seems worth noting. Someone please correct me if I am just wrong or missing something...

Cabin Jam is the first thing I really listened to of Spafford. It is 100% what got me into them and made me look into them more. Way better than Abaculus in my opinion. It is just fantastic.
