If You See Something Say Something

@damian Thanks for such a quick reply!
I can see how much love and work go into this site... that it is so new (I had no clue!!) and already has so much for fans to utilize and such a great vibe within the community is awesome.
I am not at all disappointed that what I looking for isn't here, and I understand it would take some extensive work to bring it to life. I was kind of hoping I was missing it, and figured since you had asked for some constructive feedback I would bring it up since it was something I was on the hunt for, in case others were too. I would either get pointed to it (or something close) or be able to suggest the idea if it wasn't already on the site.
I don't have a big online/social footprint...I have found myself looking forward to perusing spaffnerds.com in my free time more and more... I truly value it and want it to thrive!
You are doing amazing! -
@spaffytaffy thanks man. The community is the sum of it's parts and I can see it's better to have you in it. Thanks for your kind words and patience.

@damian
you have a css issue when you shrink the browser in chrome the menu images at the top gets moved to the white background and are not visible unless you move your mouse over them. -
@archive-it you're right. We do. I've seen it and am aware of it. Thanks. I'll make sure it gets onto the backlog.

Can we get a "Peach Jam" officially?! The band labeled the 8/12 pre-remedy jam as Peach Jam. Only played once
-
@SpaffBird in short... No, but this is open to discussion. Maybe we should make a poll and a dedicated post.
The general thinking is that one off jams just clutter the dataset. They are going to be a problem for some of the stats we generate, they're unpredictable, and they don't repeat.
Often, as was the case at the Iron Horse they will follow a cover. Phish does this too, as I understand it, to manage royalty payment. I don't get all the details but basically a 4 minute version of a cover is "cheaper" than a 29 minute version. So when the last 25 minutes are jam, they annotate it that way for the release. You can see this in the way the Baker's Dozen 1999 cover was tracked.
There are exceptions to this rule. The Pizza Jam is so classic it deserves it's name. Cabin Jam is just a straight jam (it is actually listed as jam > jam). The jams from 8/11/14 were named in honor of Robin Williams who, I believe, passed that day.
Maybe we need a way to nominate a jam for naming. I will say that the Peach Jam was amazing. So if there is a candidate it could be considered. But IDK. Another possibility that @Cody and I discussed is having a "Jam" song that gets used in these situations. That would give us 3 levels of jam:
- it's the song
- it's a sick jam
- it's so good or special that it gets named.
But my feeling right now is to just note that it was a "notable jam" and move on. I'm curious what the community thinks though and we can, if you want, post the question there. I will warn that I, and the mods, hold veto power though. I'm (as they say in the open source world) benevolent dictator for life.

@damian makes sense to not list all the jams unless they end up in the regular rotation. #trusttheprocess
-
@Johnny-Love @damian And/Or sort by State or City would be sweet.
-
Super minor thing, but a "next/previous" button on individual song pages so that you don't have to back out to the main song directory every time to navigate
-
@Johnny-Love Good idea. Would they be sorted alphabetically? Next -> Alpha Next by Title?

thoughts on having a "reviews" section where multiple people can leave their thoughts on any given show..
we all know that no 2 people will walk away from a show feeling the same way..
one persons "meh" is another persons "OMG that was the best show of tour"..
Just a thought though.. -
Just a lil something i've noticed... but it looks like notifications aren't showing up on the new main welcome page. I currently have 1 pending notification... and I can see the red icon on this page... but if I go to the main page it's gone. Not a big deal at all... and there might be somewhere better to post this... but just thought i'd point it out.

I moved this post to this topic. It's for these kinds of things.
The reason you aren't seeing notifications on the new homepage is that you're actually in another application The spaffbase and the forums are two independent apps that I've made to look like each other and I've wired together in various ways. At the moment I don't have a good way to fix this issue... so it falls under the heading of "I know... but I won't fix it for now."
But your eagle eyes are much appreciated and when there's a solution to the problem I'll let you know. Hope it isn't too inconvenient.
Also, FWIW, you know that you can get push notifications from the forum? You need the third party app "PushBullet" but once that's in place you'll get notified of stuff from the forums when it happens.

@damian yes, that's what I was thinking ...
