Oh I've preached the good word of that Bee jam to anyone that will listen to me haha definitely one of my favorites

I agree about the Phish jams...I do like the Drive In jam but it's definitely a very different beast than these Spafford jams. It seems a lot of other jambands, including Phish, can kinda meander a bit in long jams before locking into something so I get when people argue not to pay attention to jam length but I don't get that with Spafford. 5min jam or 60min jam, never have I felt like they were just noodling around they always seem to have a direction

My main point is I want more two set shows where they do an improv set. I'll happily lay on the floor drooling for an hour of it live

@dontjudgedave my bad I was thinking globe was 10/19, I read your post way too fast:) yeah I have to catch up on all the CO shows as well.

Stumbled onto an epic, spacey, minds unchained from 11/14 I'm Seattle on my way home tonight though. Is it me, or does it seem kinda like bee jam was the turning point of the tour? They've been able to crank it up to 11 on the spacey/trippy dial on a nightly basis after that. Prior to that, they were still locked in, I just felt like they were almost a diff style of deeper/funky jam. Am I crazy thinking this or has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Listened to that 11/14 show today also. Top to bottom a fantastic show. The Remedy, ATW, Minds Unchained, People, Postman, Plans, and My Road are all worth a listen.

Listened to Globe set two on my way home last night and then the Ogden soundcheck on my way in today...both really awesome. Dug the little crew jam too. Only solidified my thoughts on them doing a tour with a jam set. Would be sick.

              Okay okay ...new idea!

How about instead of a straight jam set, they just take a song for a while set ride. Pretty much what they did with that Bee jam but they go into it with the intention of just exploring where the song could go for 75min. After hearing the bee jam (so many times) and all the improv sets, I don't think they'd have any problems pushing a song all the way. Could keep things starting familiar to a newer fan seeing their first show and then by the end of the set they've really seen what they can really do.

Plus, would wouldn't love a set long Beautiful Day?

@dontjudgedave It would be excellent. Let's hope for this and tapers to capture them!

I'm taping the 2 NY state shows in Jan and will do my best to get cozy and set up early to get the sndchqs. I successfully got the Albany one last Jan. opening for UM. It was only 30+ mins. Very spacey reggae from what I remember. I still haven't put that up yet.

Huge fan of soundchecks too 🙂

big fan of the large stretches of improv they've accomplished this year

was in attendance for the ogden soundcheck jam and the VIP jam set and wow did the band really keep it engaging. I never felt like they were trying to find their feet or looking for the next movement. They were in the moment, without regard for what just happened or what is going to happen. If the audience is willing, they go on this ride with the band, not through time, but eclipsed in the now. It's a really fun thing to be a part of and I'm pretty jealous of anyone that was there for the huge Bee Jam this year.

Listening to the Charlotte show the other day I prayed to all the deities, nature spirits, magical gnomes, and lucky stars I could think of that I am in the audience for the first set-long Slip and Squander.
