Spafford Summer Six Pack

@Cody-Soule I love all the old soundchecks > opening songs, theres a few others floating around on archive. And don't forget about the fire alarm jam thru bee jam segment right before land down under, the whole thing makes for a really solid hour of music.

@myanruth thanks for setting this up, this first show is a beauty! @cody-soule I'm with ya on the ATW, the slow intro jam is incredible. I love how patient Spafford is with their improvisation; by not trying to force the song anywhere they end up taking it to the most wondrous places. Their tightness and patience already in these earliest shows is so friggin impressive. ATW has been growing on me as one of my favorite tunes, this is my favorite performance yet. The rest of the show is great too. LDU takes it OUT there and the Funkadelic>Weasel is straight Spaffurito- everything I like about Spafford wrapped up as one that takes 23 minutes to eat and is followed by a smooth Anisette- a-la-Diana to aid in digestion.

@Johnny-Love Well reviewed, ATW is one of my favorites as well! Gotta say I love the Gotta Jibboo cover here too. Love the song originally and they just put a great spin on every Phish song they cover. I'm not saying by any means that I want them to cover Phish now, but it certainly was cool back then! This heavy jam towards the end of LTLO is also really awesome. Overall, this is a great show, and shows that Spafford has had some impressive improvisational chops for quite a long time!

@myanruth Onto show #2 (2013).... This On Fire jam is just crazy!

Not a problem, but I can't take all the credit, this was originally @damian's idea and @Frito-Pie helped with the show choices.

I agree that they should probably stay way from covering Phish, but I wouldn't mind hearing a song like Bug or Dirt every now and then in a ballad spot

Yeah that on fire gets real out there. I wish Brian would incorporate more of that crazy loop stuff hes doing starting around 9:30 in the jam
-
If anyone has not seen it yet there is a video of the On Fire from 2013-05-25.
Video quality isn't the greatest but its still definitely worth watching .
-
@myanruth also the Todd Stoops sit in on ATW was a cool moment in Williamsburg. Really cool show and can't wait till they come back to the big city and blow our minds
-
@Toys-n-Tots Were you at that show? That was the most recent time I've seen them. The Stoops sit in was awesome, I just wish it went on a little bit longer
-
I certainly was in attendance and will be for 8/5 at BB Kings and 9/30 at the Bowl. Re-listening now and I'm right there with ya. That solo that he jumps into to start off is sick. Also since we're on the topic of this show, have they ever done anything like that fake out ending freeze they did before dropping into that Reprise? That was some shit
-
@Toys-n-Tots Nice I'm going to the BD after show to, not sure about BB yet. And I'm sure they have, can't thing of anything right off the top of my head, but the 2017-04-01 - Bluebird Theater show has something kind of close, where they start of with the intro to Mike's Song, and then transition into Backdoor Funk after a few measures.
-
Must have been feeling prankish in April. So hyped for the after show dude! Just made a post about it haha
-
That Williamsburg show was amazing!
-
@damian yes it most certainly was but what was up with that foul odor in the front row?
-
@Johnny-Love the stench of a thousand rotting corpses...
Whatever it was cleared a nice space for dancing up front.

Anyone listen to the Thank You > Walls from 2014-12-31 yet? I think this is one of my top 5 Spafford Jams. Red kills it during the Thank Ya portion, but Brian's playing during Walls is what really puts it over the top for me
-
How about this LTLO from 5/25/13? Brian says "Some lady slipped $5 in my pocket earlier for us to play some reggae, this is what we've got". Talk about patience - a 27 minute version of the song with a really great slow-funk-type-Makisupa-tease jam.
He ends it with "I hope that was worth the 5 bucks you put in my pocket!"
-
@Cody-Soule That's amazing!
