Spafford keeps me interested. Why do You dig them?

Spafford is one of the few bands around that can keep me interested all the way through a show.
I can't even tell you why other than full band jamming. Unlike a lot of "jambands" they don't just push the solo around the circle. They have also cultivated a certain sound. Not to say their songs sound the same but there is definitely a Spafford formula to their writing.
I can't speak too much about their live show production (my first headlining show is tomorrow!) but from videos it seems they have a decent LD and the sound seems to be on point.So what do you dig about 'em?

@leithsd among other things, the main thing I dig (besides what u said of being able to love full shows, tape to tape) is their variety of sound. You never know whether they take a jam electronic or just stay organic, but it doesn't matter, that's the beauty of these guys
You're right though they def have their own twist/sound. I described them the other day as kinda a jam band with an edge as I put on ATW from Brooklyn bowl, which has a harder, almost metal like track from Brian.

I enjoy how they let things breathe. I love older Phish and UM, and really didn't think I needed or had time to dig into another band. It takes a commitment to really understand all that is going on with this type of music.
But after getting over a few reservations I had about Spafford, what kept bringing me back is how they let the music breathe. They just go where it takes them. One of the things that frustrates me about UM sometimes is how they cut things off or change directions for no other reason than it was on the setlist. I rarely, if ever, get that impression from Spafford. And I don't mean it's directionless either (which is sometimes my complaint with Phish)... it just works.

The many facets of Spafford is def one of their selling points... i think they do a better job than most of switching genres.. a lot of time that sounds like musical tourism but Spaff convinces me whatever sound they are in
BK Bowl ^ was the one full show I caught this Fall Tour and I am a HUGE fan of that ATW... I remember the shredding that I think you are talking about (and it was all that and then some) but my favorite part of the whole sick sandwich is the super joyful jam that breaks out a little after 6minutes... i struggle to find the words to adequately describe what it does to me... there have been so many amazing moments on this tour (and many "better" jams) but the joy they conjure in this section to me is second-to-none, is 9th Symphony Ode to Joy worthy, feels like a temporary enlightenment... it is also entirely possible that I am a punch-drunk biased because the show lifted off for me at this point and hasn't dropped me back yet
