So I shouldn't comment, because I haven't seen either band in that time period,but the only way I can see Brian beating out Trey is that Brian seams to access more soul than Trey.

I saw more virtuoso licks out of Brian at those TXR shows, rather Dweezil like.

It’s tough to compare. Two musicians at completely different stages of their careers. I love both of them and the comparisons can actually be an interesting conversation but to put them against each other in the same 3 year period gives me that sharp brain pain. The amount of material that Trey has written and released in that time frame is mind boggling. The virtuosity Brian has shown during the same time is incredible. Both are Jedi. One is a master, and the other is a knight who is doing great work using the Force.
Love them both and feel blessed to be here to listen and see them do their thing. -

But the reality is... why (beyond for fun) even make the comparison. Next up... Clapton vs Page. Good luck deciding.

If we're talking about Trey at Brian's age, then it's almost impossible to say who wins the guitar battle... Trey back then shredded just as much and just as well as Brian does now, lol
